When things are going fine, all ISPs are the same. It's when things go wrong that the good ISPs shine.

I had a problem where my mailserver appeared to be under sporadic attack from some unknown software on some device occasionally connecting to my WiFi. The ISP software was protecting itself by temporarily preventing access to mail for minutes at a time.

I raised a problem ticket with 34SP and got a quick response and a direction for my investigation. After a day or so of me getting logfiles back from a dedicated team member at 34SP, wile I turned various devices on and off, we gradually eliminated things one after another on all my WiFi-connected devices. It was eventually tracked down to a misspelling in one of the parameters on an little-used email client on my wife's laptop! D'oh!

And that's where having a good ISP really matters, because without their *willing* help, it would have taken me absolutely ages to find out why every now and then I couldn't pick up my emails.
