I recently visited Claire's in Silverburn and was very disappointed by the service I received. The staff were standing around talking to each other and having a good gossip on a busy Saturday afternoon. One girl was serving whilst the rest chatted. I waited in the queue for over 5 mins to get served. I asked another member of staff who was wearing the manager's badge if anyone else was serving as there was another till free but was met with a rude response telling me that the cashier was going as fast as she could. I had no problem with the cashier as she was the only one out of them working. When I finally reached the counter I produced the broken earings which my daughter had bought earlier in the week. The girl said she would need to get her manager. The girl shouted on the woman who I had spoken to earlier and she said she was busy at the moment and would be over shortly. I turned to see what she was doing and could see that she was tidying the hairbands at the back of the shop. This only angered me more as I am of the opinion that the customer should be served first. After almost a minute of standing at the side of the cash desk while the cashier worked her way through the rest of the queue, the manager eventually came over. I told her I would like a refund for the earings. She asked for the receipt which I didn't have as my daughter had not kept it. The manager huffed and said I should have brought my receipt as she couldn't give money back without a receipt. I explained to her my situation that I had no reason to keep the receipt as I knew earings couldn't be returned and was not expecting the stems on both earings to snap off on £8.50 sterling silver earings after 5 minutes in my daughter's ears. The manager snapped at me that it was not her fault as she did not make the earings. I had not blamed her for them breaking, I only explained that I didn't think it was fair not to be given my money back when the earings were not fit for use. She then said she would give me my money as a "gesture of goodwill" and made a big fuss of how she was doing me a favour. I left the shop feeling very let down and disappointed at the service I received. I have only shopped in the Claire's in Braehead and always been met by friendly, smiling, helpful staff memebers. I will not be returning to Claire's in Silverburn and will be telling my family and friends about the terrible level of customer service received.
