“A stunning sports bike by BMW, that is outstanding in...”

written by MarkA on 23/08/2005

Good Points
Amazing handling, stability, brutal power, brakes, quality of components, great appearance, comfort.

Bad Points
Loud engine rattle on overrun, engine vibration across the RPM range, strong grip needed to pull in clutch, poor side stand, mediocre dealer service, expensive to fix!

General Comments
A stunning sports bike by BMW, that is outstanding in very nearly every department. Looks that rival Cindy Crawford in a swimsuit, supremely competent when it comes to handling, refined power delivery with acceleration, that will take your breath away above 6,000 RPM, quality components that make you want to touch everything, VERY comfortable, etc...

Took the bike into a Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki dealer to get a puncture repaired, and was quickly told 'we don't repair BMWs', while everyone in the store came around to admire it! :-)

A ground-breaking product that is EASILY the best bike I've ever ridden, let down by a slight vibration across the RPM range that makes the bike feel very slightly rough rather than the smooth-as-silk you would expect. There is also a distinctive rattle at 2800 RPM when under engine braking (sounds like a loose body panel), and dealer service is nowhere near as good as BMWs auto division. Having said that, I just can't get enough time in the saddle with this beautiful machine!
