“Please judge for yourself!”

written by peugeoterror on 02/02/2016

Peugeot 1.4 Petrol 2007.
Car kept throwing up the same fault codes so ECU sent to The ECU Doctor and they tested it, finding no faults.
Just to make sure I fitted their loan ECU which eliminated the original codes but other fault codes were generated in place (oil pressure and RPM faults)
The test ECU was returned and I refitted the original ECU only to find all the original fault codes reappeared however, the oil pressure and RPM faults from the test ECU were not present.
On their advise I paid an Auto Electrician to test the wiring loom and this was found to be free of fault, the electrician did find fault with the ECU and told me to replace it.
A secondhand replacement was supplied by a really helpful company in Bingham Notts who swapped over the various chips to match the car and so making it compatible.
This was fitted to the car and it has been running perfectly and without any fault codes for over a year now!!!!
My experience was the result of water penetrating the ECU via the temp sender cable (common problem via capillary action from thermostat housing)all of which was replaced at the very beginning.
Perhaps ECU's are difficult to diagnose without a proper test rig, making component testing the only option?
The Doctor was helpful at the very beginning but declined to agree or even question his initial test. Had he scrapped it from the outset I would have save 3 months delay and several hundred pounds.
Judge for yourself please!
