“Booked with the Sun and upgraded to the highest...”

written by on 15/10/2009

Booked with the Sun and upgraded to the highest standard accomodation after reading bad reviews. On arrival reception area was free and the man I spoke to was friendly and informative. We found our caravan easily, we had been upgraded to a Platinum caravan, we were quite happy with this! It was a home from home (apart from the smell of cigarette smoke). Even had an en-suite bathroom in the main bedroom. DVD and tv in both bedrooms and lounge. Freeview in all rooms. The site itself was a bit shabby but I grew to ignore it! After all we paid less than 150 pounds in all for a long weekend. We only ate at the pub, I can't remember it's name now, but it was away from the main complex and next to the boating lake, near the shop. I didn't find the shop that overpriced either, I've stayed places before that are extortionate.

Back to the pub, the staff were great, very friendly even though they were under a lot of stress - it was busy and the fire alarm seemed to go off every half hour, we had to be evacuated twice while we were there for safety reasons. I did feel for the staff that night as I witmessed a lot of people shouting at them and ending up with free drinks due to the inconvenience. This did not ruin our meal, actually I think it was our chargrilled burgers that set the first one off!

We didn't really use the facilities that much, we booked it to visit Snowdonia mainly, and the surrounding areas. I would recommend visiting Portmeirion village and Carnaerfon too. We also enjoyed a walk at Beddgelert. The locals are very friendly too.

We definitely will be revisiting but will also definitely be booking a Platinum caravan. The chalets look like something from the 60's - be warned!!!
