“We were in Colchester for my brother's wedding, and...”

Written on: 08/04/2009

We were in Colchester for my brother's wedding, and needed a place to eat out in on the Saturday afterwards. The Lemon Tree catered the wedding and provided an excellent buffet so we decided to eat at the restaurant the next day. Overall we had a nice evening. The atmosphere was good, the waitress was chatty and pleasant. Our order was taken timely and our champagne cocktails were delicious. Our starters were fantastic and my husbands main course was unusual - goat - but very good too. However, my lamb was grisly and really terrible meat. I have never sent any food back to a kitchen, ever. But I sent that back. The good news was that the staff dealt with my complaint brilliantly. Apologetic, empathic and quick to replace my meal they just could not have done any more for me. The replacement meal was fabulous and was served within ten minutes of ordering. So, Lemon Tree, well done for that! Our desserts were really good, especially the Crannachan which was sooo light and yummy. After reading some of these reviews I was suprised - I didn't think that the food was that expensive, we had three courses, a cocktail and a soft drink each for £60 which I thought was very reasonable. Is food generally cheaper in Colchester then or are we paying over the odds down here in Brighton? Anyway, we will return in future and hopefully they will have the creases ironed out with your butcher!
