I loaded my CV onto a well known job search internet site and then applied for a position as an Office Manager through Forrest Recruitment based in Manchester.
I was highly excited when a day later I was contacted by Forrest - the girl who spoke to me was really excited and said that I must book an interview - which really excited me because it had been applying for a lot of positions with no real feedback.
We agreed a date and I was about to end the call when she said: "that's all booked now so that you can come in and register". Hello?!? I was already registered with them. I told her that I was already registered with them and had been for the last 12 months. She then put me on hold for about 5 min and came back asking questions about where and when I had registered. After answering all her questions she said that it was fine and put the phone down.
Then I got an email from Forrest confirming my appointment to get registered. I emailed back reminding them again that I had already registered with them. I then got a response telling me that in that case I would be called if I met the selection criteria of the role. I know, right! So I emailed then yet again, and reminded them that they were the ones who had emailed me to start off with, telling me that I had met the selection criteria and that I should contact them.
I then got a call from a slightly irritated agent who explained to me that I needed to come in and register before they could put me forward for the position. Again I told her that I was already registered. She then told me that she did not have my details on file and that I have to come in and register. I reluctantly agreed but cancelled on the day as everything seemed to have been revolved around getting me in to register, rather than interviewing me for this position.
I was angry that they had lied to me and got my hopes up. I had spent a whole day researching interviewing techniques and answers before I realised that they were not actually interested in me, but rather the commission which came with signing someone up.
In the 12 months which I had been registered with them they had only ever contacted me with temp jobs for far less than I was then earning, even though I had stipulated that I was only looking for permanent jobs.
I cannot recommend them to anyone who is serious about getting a permanent position, but if you are willing to work for much less than you are worth they are the people for you.
