“It's a store card people not free money! ”

written by Sherlyn400 on 20/04/2015

I think the majority of 1 star reviews here are either from young students who have just embarked on the 'real world' or people with less brain cells than a flea.

It's a store card not free money. You can't go and blow £100 on the card then moan hour not being treated fairly when you've not paid it off on time and then they are phoning you for the money YOU borrowed off them to feed your fashion habit, and they are causing you 'undue stress' when in actual fact it's yourself that has caused your own undue stress by taking out a store card to obtain credit for clothes you obviously can't afford and then refuse to pay for them because you have no money.

It's simple. Don't sign up for a store card unless
1. You know all the facts, you have a mouth, you only need to ask. You have eyes, you only need to take 5 mins and read the contract. You wouldn't sign an unread contract to some random person off the street for anything, store cards are the same.
2. You know you CAN afford to pay it back, whether it be in one or instalments. If you are only taking home EMA from college or have a student loan, a store card is NOT for you. If you have a part time job with little income, a store card is NOT for you. If you have less than £50-£100 SURPLUS wages after everything you need to pay for each month has been paid - it's NOT for you. If you have enough extra cash floating around each month but need a card to grab something here and there and pay off at a later date and you know you will truly be able to - this card IS for you. It's that simple.

Get your heads out of your backsides and stop blaming companies for your own stupid errors of judgment.

Now onto the card itself. I have had the card for a while now. I work full time and have my own business so I was confident I would be able to pay it off, but there are times when I'm walking through town or online and my banking hasn't been done etc so I have that there to grab a little something for me or my kids should I fancy it. The card is super easy to use both online and in store, and my statement come through around 3 weeks before the payment due date via e mail.
I don't rely on this though as we all know sometimes technology fails us, so I set a reminder on my phone every month to pop online and check the dates and balances. Simple.
I pay around 4 days before the due date, the payment takes around 2 days to be processed onto the account. Never had a problem with that and the online system is simple to use.
When I'm not online, or I'm at the store, I make a payment to the cashier also and that is simple and again the payment shows within 2 days.

Nice simple card to use, you can request smaller credit limits if you don't trust yourself, and customer service seems fine on the odd time I've locked myself out of my account online!

Not a card for anyone not in a stable enough job or for students so I do agree it shouldn't be aimed at them, I got into enough trouble as a student with store cards so they should definitely be aimed at people from upper 20's and over, or they need to push for the younger ones to really understand what they are signing for (altho by that age you should be able to read and understand a financial contract otherwise you have no business in signing up for something you don't understand - life lesson learned there!) but all in all if used correctly, the way intended, it's a good card.

Apr is high, but that's standard for store card credit facilities.
