“Check their selected Repairer - DO NOT USE UK ASSISTANCE”

written by on 11/02/2015

A left hand drive lorry hit my car on the M25 in December last year. No one was hurt but there was quite a lot of damage to passenger side of my car. Sainsbury's insurance arranged for my car to be collected and repaired by their designated repair agent, UK Assistance in Birmingham. When the car was returned the body work had been repaired well but I noticed that the back running light, high level brake light and radio display were not working. UK Assistance came out to look at the vehicle but said they were unable to get the lights working. I complained to Sainsbury's and many very long conversations took place backwards and forwards. After weeks of arguing and the vehicle going back to UK Assistance, Sainsburys said that they were very sorry but there was nothing they could do. UK Assistance said that they didn't cause the damage so that was all that Sainsbury's could do. I have a signed document that states all of the lights including radio management lights, were working on collection, but this means nothing. I have taken it to the Financial Ombudsman who have said they can't help unless I can prove that UK Assistance were responsible. My Fiat Dealer has said that the diagnostic test will show the fault but won't prove when or how it occurred. I have spoken to a number of mechanics who have told me that the garage have probably started welding without disconnecting the battery. I even found a review on yell.com where exactly the same thing happened to someone else and Sainsbury's did nothing to help them either. I am so angry that this accident was not my fault, I wasn't given the opportunity to chose a repairer and then my car is returned in a worse condition than it was in prior to the accident. What happened to the Customer is always right?! My advice to anyone using this insurance company is to not go anywhere near UK Assistance in Birmingham before you read the startling amount of bad reviews on the internet.
