“Still finding problems 2 years on”

My wife and I bought a home from Crest Nicholson 2 years ago. In general, we were pleased with the house itself (otherwise we wouldn't have bought it!). It was exactly what we wanted. 2 years on it's still the house we want to be living in but significant problems with the plumbing mean that we are having to spend hundreds of pounds on repairs to problems that were, almost certainly, in the house to begin with.

We had Crest out in the first two years to fix a variety of problems (poor sealant on the shower, cracks in walls, badly installed outside drain). The number of problems was alarming but, under the 2 year warranty, Crest came and fixed them all. 2 years and 3 months in a leak appeared on our living room ceiling. A leak from a waste pipe that caused significant damage to our living room ceiling and wall. Crest refused to help as we were outside our warranty. We didn't pass judgement on them at this point because we weren't sure what the problem was. Having called out 2 separate plumbers to look at the job (the first wasn't able to complete it), we received the same professional opinion: it was the fault of the installation. There was a crack in a pipe that, in the judgement of our plumbers, would have been there from the start, slowly building and growing above our ceiling.

We reported this to Crest, believing they would be reasonable and fix a problem that seemed to be their making. We hit a brick wall. Not only did they refuse any help (to pay some of the extensive costs) but they seemed to blame us for the problem and the way we dealt with. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. When you buy a new, you buy it for the security of knowing that it works, that it's in good condition and you won't have to worry about things like the plumbing, at least for a while.

Obviously, this problem is fairly specific to us. Not every house will have a broken waste pipe. But it seems clearly, in our experience, that Crest homes are fairly rushed and problems like this and the others we experienced are likely. Furthermore, the complaints department treats you as if you're an idiot and tries as hard as possible to place the blame anywhere but themselves. I would strongly recommend not causing yourself the hassle.
