General Comments
The Fuji Finepix 1300 represents excellent value for money for those making their first breakthrough into digital photography, but only want a basic camera for simple snaps. The photos produced are small enough to be emailed to friends and family without clogging up their telephone line (300kb each), yet the quality is good enough to be blown up to A4 size (if you want to) without serious deterioration.

At the time of writing (Sept 01), this is one of the cheapest digital cameras on the market with an LCD screen to allow you to view your photos immediately after you've taken them. Unlike many other digital cameras under £200, it uses memory cards rather than internal memory, so at least you won't lose your photos if your batteries run out before you get chance to download them onto your PC (very likely - see comments below!).

The software is simple to install and use, and allows you to transfer photos from your camera to PC and vice versa via a USB interface.

Rechargeable batteries are an absolute essential - the standard batteries supplied with the camera last through about 2 to 3 hours of photography (about a month's worth of occasional photography, or in my case just an evening playing with the new toy!). Additional memory above the standard 8MB provided is also strongly recommended. A 32MB card can store up to 100 normal quality shots, more if you downgrade the quality.

I would recommend buying the Finepix 1300 with rechargeable batteries and a 32MB memory card from www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk (this package cost me less than £200 including VAT and delivery in Sept 01).

I was very impressed with internetcamerasdirect's delivery service - I placed on order over the internet on a Sunday night and received the camera first post Tuesday!
