“Afternoon Tea by Lake Windermere”

written by LeylandLad on 18/08/2014

My wife and I purchased a champagne afternoon tea through Red Letter Days and we opted to go to the Waterhead Hotel at Ambleside.
The hotel is next to the lake and has parking round the rear. We were served in the cocktail bar area but could also have eaten in the restaurant.
We were served our champagne first and then after a short interval were given a big pot of tea with extra hot water.
The waitress then brought in a heavily laden three tiered cake stand full of finger sandwiches, home made cakes (big ones not the miniature ones that seem to be the fashion)and two warm scones with cream and jam.
The fillings on the sandwiches were delcious as were the cakes and scones (at least the ones we managed to eat!). At the end it was no trouble for the waitress to wrap up our remaining cakes in tin foil for us to take away.
All in all we had an enjoyable afternoon and would recommend it to anyone visisting the Lake district
