I have been on the co-operative young driver scheme for almost two years and after hearing all the rubbish from member of staff and managers a like decided to change companies, upgrade my car and get a cheaper quote.
I had a 1.4 Ibiza which I was paying £890 a year for which was fine until I sold the car and spoke to the co-op. They advised me that I needed to find a new car, receive the log book and also send a copy of my license within 14 days or else my policy would be cancelled. I would expect all major insurance companies to be able to "freeze" payments until. New car was found however co-operative wanted to be informed before selling the car as they feel like they have a right to know. After stating this matter to them they advised that in their terms and conditions they dont have to tell you that you have 14 days to find a car and they can do it as they are the insurance providers.. I smelt a rat.
After stating to them the rules and regulations of providing insurance I got put through to a manager who clearly did not know what she was talking about and ask to register a complaint. They mentioned that it would take 5 workong days for an acknowledement letter than 6-8 weeks for a solution and they expect you to buy a car within 14 days. Then they want you to do the work for them for providing a solution..
Was told what a cat-c and cat-d car was and told that even though my car is HPI clear I would need to get an engineer's report which I have to pay for.
Lets just say I upgraded to a 1.6 BMW Mini; gone with a company with no smartbox and got better prices and service. Also to add any car whether temp or permanent would need a box fitted which will hike up the prices and also be careful when selling the car as test drives are not allowed.
I would avoid the company like the plague. Worst company ever. Makes their own rules up as they go along.
