“A Backcountry Benchmark”

Written on: 31/03/2014 by PabloAlto (1 review written)

I purchased these to replace my 3-piece Black Diamond expedition poles. These 2 piece poles seem far stronger with less likelihood of bending the lower pole section. In my view, the flick-lock is the only choice for 2 or 3 piece poles and beats the twist mechanism hands down.

The traverse grips on the poles are a nice touch and definitely make a difference on steep skin tracks. The packed down size is fairly large but I don't really see this as an issue for a ski pole - perhaps unless using these for snowboarding or tackling some uber ski mountaineering objectives. The baskets are powder fat and you will notice a difference if you are used to narrower piste-style baskets.

All in, highly recommended for ski touring. Previously I had opted for regular ski poles (over the BD 3 piece expedition) but think these are worth the extra for the traverse grips and flexibility of adjustable length.

Great service from Facewest as usual - seamless website and quick delivery.
