“We were not happy”

Written on: 15/02/2014 by quikneil (1 review written)

As we were unable to contact the hotel (Alborada at Costa Silencio, Tenerife) I tried for three weeks to get help from Low Cost Holidays. All I received were three automated emails until the day before travelling when LCH rang to say that our hotel was overbooked. They had arranged a one night stay at another hotel about fifteen miles away. This cost us almost a full day of our holiday travelling back and forward. Not a good start and it didn't get much better! The hotel is in poor condition, crumbling concrete everywhere and from the outside looks more like a prison than a hotel. The food was basic with a poor menu and rarely more than luke warm. We were told that the hotel is 80% owned by the Germans and that they liked food that way! A microwave oven is provided and is in constant use.Hygiene at the dining room (more like a canteen really) was questionable in several ways. Cold food was left out uncovered between meals and at the mercy of the flies. On the good side, the rooms were quite decent, although at first the bathwater was barely warm. This was corrected later. It has the biggest swimming pool (sea water) that I have ever seen. The bar serves drinks in waxed paper (7-up cups). After just a few minutes, neat whiskey begins to rot the paper. Glasses are available but the staff seem reluctant to use them. Total disappointment was avoided by almost constant sunshine which fortunately wasn't supplied by the hotel.
