“Old Professional Musician”

written by oldmuso on 26/12/2013

I've had my pair of Q15's stored in their original packing for nearly 10 years since moving house and had been using a pair of Tannoy floor standing speakers along with an Onix solid state amp, Pro-ject Debut 111 turntable with a Garrot P7 cartridge and Teac VRDS 10 CD player.
I recently purchased a valve amp (from China ) and decided to try my KEFs again. What a revelation, after giving both the amp and speakers time to settle in the sound and detail along with imaging was marvelous.I listen mainly to Jazz and classical music and have been delighted with the natural sound of both instruments and voices, both male and female. I've read of some people being disappointed with the lack of deep bass and I agree that there is a steep roll off at I'm guessing about 50 hz but the bass is there in a more natural form, particularly on jazz recordings. If you play or listen to live jazz the bass is never to the forefront. As a result of this I've disgarded my Tannoys, put the KEFs on good stands and am a happy listener again.
