“Holiday From Hell”

written by on 16/12/2013

We went to Peyia in Cyprus in August 2013,and stayed in Villa Panthea. On our second evening there, the villa door lock was smashed,as was the safety deposit box.As James Villas advises all guests to put valuables in the safe, which is what we did,all he contents were stolen. We had only just arrived ,and had a substantial amount of cash in there. There were more burglaries in the area following ours, and we suspected, after speaking to the locals, that there had been more before us.Had James been honest when asked about the burglaries in the area, some of them could have been prevented. When approached by other holidaymakers who had been burgled after us,we felt bad that as James weren't advising their guests about the situation, that we should have told them ourselves.James were unable to get a locksmith,so we spent the rest of the night trying to sleep with a rope tied through door handles, and threaded through dining chairs. The rest of the holiday was spoilt,as we were nervous and distrustful of the MANY people that visited the villa everyday except two. There was a constant stream of pool cleaners, villa cleaners, repair men etc for the rest of the holiday. This meant that as we didn't want to use the replacement safe,we were constantly trying to find hiding places for the valuables we did have left. When we went out on an evening,we had to take a big bag with us containing what was left of our valuables. On our return to the UK,despite having James Villas own insurance, they refused to help us with our insurance claim. We were told that it was nothing to do with them, and would have to deal with it ourselves. The claim is still, even now, unsettled. We did get our daughter to go on Twitter to mention the situation, and only then, after more than two months, did James offer to write an email for us to send to the insurance company. To date, travelclaimsservices have still not settled our claim, and have stopped responding to us completely. We'll never use James Villas again.Once they have your money, customer care and duty of care goes out of the window. From the moment we returned to the villa and discovered the burglary, until now,has been incredibly stressful and upsetting.Thank-you James Villas for a truly unforgettable holiday experience.
