“Travel Republic - will they come up with the goods?”

We booked a holiday to the Mediterranean Palace in May 2013, paid the balance in November and are due to fly on 7th Dec. We contacted the hotel to upgrade the room today , only to be told they had no record of our booking - 11 days before we're due to arrive. The hotel were extremely helpful, searching several times for our details and emailing us to suggest Travel Republic may have used another company.
I tried to raise a customer query to Travel Republic through "Managing Your Bookings" on their website and after completing lengthy details couldn't submit it due to problems on the site. Maybe conveniently so. I finally got through on the phone to be told they had not booked themselves but had used a supplier - Hotel Beds, whose policy, apparently is to only inform hotels of reservations and arivals 48 hrs beforehand!!!!! This explains why so many people arrive to find the rooms they've booked and paid for months in advance have been sold to other holidaymakers. The hotels don't know a booking has been made. Once you've paid a deposit that room should be reserved, not up for grabs to more reputable booking methods. This is taking money by deception. Travel Republic assurred me today that thye will instruct Hotel Beds to disclose our details to the Med Palace today. We will contact the hotel tomorrow to see if this has been done. In any event I will be ccing ABTA into this comment.
