“American Sky self drive Wonders of the West. Brilliant!”

Written on: 21/11/2013 by JR516 (2 reviews written)

I stumbled across "American Sky" almost by accident, why haven't I heard of them before? From the beginning everything went like clockwork. We chose the self drive Wonders of the West after a really helpful chat with one of their reps. We decided to upgrade to a convertible (worth every penny) and received booking confirmation, at which point we decided to upgrade to the superior hotel option. No problem, cancelled all previous hotel bookings and rebooked the superior ones. One in Las Vegas was unavailable so we were contacted to discuss options.
I was particularly "concerned" about the hire car details, having read all sorts of negative reviews about "Dollar" rent a car and they were probably well deserved but the package you get includes everything you need and there's not much extra that Dollar can try and get you to add on so just say "No Thanks" to everything and it'll be fine. Again, American Sky were very helpful and contacted us both by phone and Email to answer all my questions. Be aware though that Dollar is a "budget" chain and very popular so be prepared for a long queue - we took over an hour to get to the desk!
The documentation you receive gives you distances to each new destination so you can plan your trips accordingly. Some are seemingly huge distances, compared to GB but 250 miles in USA is really quite enjoyable and no, the speed limit is not 55mph. One piece of advice, either buy a Satnav and take it with you, upgrade your own to American Maps (£36 for my Garmin) or be prepared tp pay over the odds to hire one from Dollar. Mine worked fantastically well and although you don't need it to find San Francisco it's in the last 200 yards when it's value becomes apparent!
We would highly recommend this holiday and this firm and we are intending to have a similar trip next year, this time to Canada. All in all, a big "Well Done and Thank You"
