“Disgusting behaviour”

written by Angry Barrister on 20/11/2013

Took out insurance for all my cats two years ago but each year the premium has increased by well above inflation (usually 15%). Endded the arrangements for two of my cats earlier this year but had to keep one policy open due to the cat becoming ill (first time in all our time with them). They initially refused to pay the insurance stating that I had only been with the vet for three months and my previous vet had not responded. I've actually used the same vet for 16 years so that is the first lie exposed.

This week I received the new insurance quote for next year and it has increased by 131%. When challenged they said it was because my cat is high risk (1 claim in the ten years I've had him)and because he is getting old. The insurance claim for him was £400 of which I had to pay £152 (excess and age), so in essence they had to shell out £248. My premiums were £19 per month, which means I've paid £228 in premiums during the year. So, they now want close on £600 per year for insuring my cat in case they have to pay out again.

This is outright piracy and I will be raising it as a complaint. A manager was supposed to contact me yesterday to deal with the complaint but s/he must be very busy dealing with others as no one has had the courtesy to come back to me. Shocking customer service and it has stopped me from considering contributing any charitable amounts to PDSA in the future.
