There is no better train ride in the world that I know of than the Rocky Mountaineer train from Banff to Vancouver. Beautiful dome cars let you see all the scenery (be sure to pay the little extra to go "Gold Leaf"), and you can get up and move around whenever you want. Meals in the dining room below the comfortable dome car are elegant, with too many good choices to try them all. In between, special treats, interesting commentary, and general good will are furnished by knowledgeable, entertaining, caring, helpful, and VERY patient host/hostesses.
The scenery is gorgeous and varied, and the overnight in a hotel in Kamloops was great -- good room, and most of the trip in daylight. (We were delayed due to problems with the tracks, and the company treated us royally -- served an impromptu supper in our seats, entertained, transported quickly and most efficiently to the hotel, given an extra hour to sleep the next day.)
A splurge, but worth every penny!
