My wife and I travelled to Kefalonia on the Sunday 22nd September for 1 week and stayed at the Pelagos Apartments on the outskirts of Skala. The apartments are approximately 15 minutes walk to the centre of Skala where there are many local tavernas, bars and shops. The apartments are family run and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a swimming pool which is maintained to the highest standards. It is a good size and located at the same level as the bar. The apartments were very clean and the beds comfortable. We had an excellent view to the sea and enjoyed watching the sunrise.
In the local town of Skala there is a great deal of restaurant choice. The food is generally of high quality and very good value for money. The people are very friendly in Skala and in fact all over the island.
The island is absolutely beautiful and unspoilt. It is not particularly big so it is easy to get around to the small towns and wonderful beaches. The main roads are generally well surfaced and easy to drive on. The nature of Kefalonia is that it is hilly but the roads are easy to drive on.
Kefalonis has 11 Blue Flag Beaches of which Myrtos has been voted the best beach in Greece. We agree and although popular even Myrtos was not over crowded. The best way to describe the beaches is: blue sky meets blue sea with a white beach, some are sand and some pebbles, with beautiful hills and delightful tavernas.
There is a lot of history on the Island and also in the highest areas a Pine forest. There are spectacular views from the top of Mount Aenos across the island and to adjacent islands.
Finally if you like activities, there are many water sports, caves to explore and of course shopping
Would I go back? Absolutely.
