“Casa Shanti, Penedo do Lexim, Mafra, Portugal”

Written on: 24/08/2013

Although rather 'quaint' at first sight, my husband and I were really too disgusted even to take a shower in this place. It has to be the worse B&B we have ever experienced in years of travel.
For 70 Euros (expensive compared to other places in the area which, having checked since our return, offer much more for the same price) we got:
a double bed on a raised Platform beneath wooden beams which are so low, you have to bend down to get into bed without banging your head
a sofa (cushions on wooden pallets) at the end of the bed which you have to sit on to have a meal on the coffee table (our Young daughter had to sit on a pouffe;
a single bed in a separate room with an army of ants which had formed a row on the mattress, meaning she had to sleep in our bed (we told the owner who naturally did NOT offer a discount, just a smile);
a kitchen into which my husband was barely able to enter, the beams were that low
no terrace - merely the possibility to walk to an outdoor table, squeezing past another guest's car;
gecos and other insects
We felt totally insulted by the lady renting this place - I think the worst insult was the bit about 'breakfast included' ... basically DIY with a loaf of bread, a jar of jam and a tub of margarine, the remains of which I'm positive will have been offered to the next unfortunate guests!
If I were a hotel inspector, I'd order this place to be closed - it's a total rip-off!
