“The TrendNet TFM-560x is a quality modem, well built...”

written by Rick from Manchester on 19/02/2006

Good Points
Works with Linux and Windows, or any other operating system which supports RS-232 serial communications.

Bad Points
Requires shelf space and connection to external AC power, as do all external modems!

General Comments
The TrendNet TFM-560x is a quality modem, well built and solid. I purchased it to use with a Linux (GNU/Linux) box, but recently gave it away to a family member to replace a failed internal modem they were using with Windows. Unlike internal WinModems, which use the host PC's CPU and resources to emulate modem hardware (slowing down both the PC and the modem functions), this modem's modulating/demodulating is all done inside the modem itself, using its own internal hardware, connecting to your PC through an RS-232 serial port. Needless to say, I will be purchasing another TrendNet TFM-560X to replace the one I gave away.
