Via BA Airlines (not to be recommended as well) what you pay for your car hire in the UK is not the TOTAL cost. We paid about £350 for a week via their website - thought that was quite good and then in Pisa got stung for £312 excess insurance and the rest of it. If you don't take it, if you scratch the car they can charge ridiculous sums of money. Check advice through the Guardian website. Every tourist got caught out in the queue I was in - DON"T TOUCH THEM - they don't deserve your money!!! Take your own car if possible.
