In July/August of 2012 I travelled with a friend to West Africa. We spent time in Ghana, Togo and Benin. It was amazing!.... unfortunately whilst in Benin I fell extremely ill with malaria and needed to be admitted to hospital. I was really sick and my friend was fantastic in looking after me :). She called World Nomads as soon as the malaria was diagnosed and the consultant (doctor?) she spoke to was fantastic. HE explained to her what she needed to do, needed to keep records of and what she needed to scan and fax. As we were in a French speaking country without either of us speaking a word of French he even spoke to the doctors and explained to her what was happening with me. He rang to check on the situation and was brilliant. Upon submitting the claim, I emailed World Nomads and was given a clear outline of what they needed me to do (having kept all the documents they needed from what the consultant told my friend). I submitted everything and was refunded for the hospital bills, medicine and phone credit we used to call World Nomads. The help we received while in Benin in an already stressful situation makes me feel confident in the help that World Nomads provides in stressful and difficult situations.
