“Nikkor AF 20mm f/2.8D is the ultra-wide angle lens. ...”

written by CyberPOP. on 17/05/2000

Good Points
Wide wide wide, reasonably fast lens, not expensive, take 62mm filter, low distortion, ok-color correction and saturation.

Bad Points
distortion (even though it's very low), incorrect color correction (even though it's very low), color seems to be fade -not saturate even I put E100VS. Flare and hard to correct with the designed hood. Slightly vignetting at wide open -but not serious.

General Comments
Nikkor AF 20mm f/2.8D is the ultra-wide angle lens. It is one of the gems that Nikon ever made for the planet. For around 400 bucks, you can go wide wide wide with very low distortion. The pictures turn out to be sharp edge-to-edge. At f/2.8, you might have vignetting problem, but not serious. I found it's great at f/4 (in case you don't want great DOF). The far focus seems to be blur if colors are not much different, for instance, shooting Fall season with B&W. I think the problem is color-tone of this lens. But it's acceptable for this price. A combination of this lens with Nikkor 50/1.4 AFD, 80-200 AFD-ED-IF and one Nikon body can make you enjoy the world for the rest of your life.
