The choice of hotels was good but there should be more clarity regarding cancellation fees. Although booking.com use the card details solely to reserve the room it was not until confirmation that it was clear that there was a very steep cancellation charge and that the whole of the cost of the booking would be taken immediately. This is not acceptable and a cancellation within a reasonable period should not attract any cancellation charge, let alone the ridiculous amount indicated in the confirmation.
This will put people off booking and the wording of Booking.com policy on reservations misrepresents the true position in relation to such a booking. It is true that Booking.com do not charge the card but that hides the hotel/Booking.com policy on cancellations. I have certainly not authorized anyone to charge the credit card.
