“123 live chat help”

I'm a complete novice at writing websites, self-taught using Dreamweaver and a Dummies guide, and it's been a very steep learning curve. The 123-Reg website was recommended to me, but I'm afraid I have not found it very easy to use as a novice. There are a lot of choices on every page, I don't know what they all are or how to choose, and as I don't know what I'm doing I found it hard to understand what I needed to do to get my website live. I do some copywriting, mainly interpretation, and I know it's not easy and this is complex stuff - but I do think there could be some much simpler step-by-step guidance for people like me. For example, how do I find out what all the buttons are for on the Web hosting control page? I have no idea what most of them are for, or how to tell when I've uploaded successfully. Why do my files show in red, for example? I assumed that meant something wasn't right, but could not find any explanation. Also, in the 'troubleshooting', please make sure that when you say 'click the xyz icon' that is actually what the icon is labelled as - it really helps.

After a lot of hair-tearing I got my website live - sort of - but couldn't get the index page to work. So in the end I contacted the live chat, and spoke to an advisor. Eventually he guided me to the discovery that I have managed to overwrite my index page with the 123 default page. My fault I'm sure, because I'm fumbling here! But it explains a lot. So at last I can see a pathway to fixing this.

The help I've had from them is a breakthrough. I do not see how I could have identified the problem with the on-line written help.
