“We boarded QM2 in Brooklyn on Sunday 18th December...”

written by on 10/01/2010

We boarded QM2 in Brooklyn on Sunday 18th December 2009, having been lucky enough to arrived before the snow arrived. We have NEVER cruised and I decided that for my 50th Birthday (on the 27th Dec) we would do it in style! We took our children, 2 daughters aged 22 & 19 and a son aged 13. I was concerned after reading some 'reviews' that the kids would not be catered for regarding entertainment as most reviews said entertainment was aimed at the 60+ age group. My worries were completely unfounded as they had a AMAZING time and they all have made fabulous memories and friends. They hold an introduction session for 18-30's (champaigne reception!) and a 'teenzone' for 13-17. Both well organised and really friendly. We saw our son at breakfast (and if we went ashore) and at dinner and even then he asked can he leave the table as his friends had left the dining room!

Cunard's Staff are there greatest asset; from unloading at the dock side to disembarking. Reviewers who comment on any negativity about getting on or off the QM2 need to take a breath and be patient!

Our rooms were ample size for me and my husband and for the 3 kids next door. Though I couldn't apologise enough to our room steward (John) for the state of the kids room! Twice a day the room was serviced; cleaned, new towels put in and tidied around - Brilliant! In the kids room the couch was converted to a bed each night and put away each morning.

All food was exceptional from the Britannia (we did both early & late sitting) to the room service when I felt a bit peckish after sunbathing! We did the afternoon tea in the Queens Room, just lovely!

The bar we most enjoyed was The Chart room; it has comfortable chairs to sit back (and take your shoes off!) and the service was exceptional; staff are available to replenish drinks constanly but not hovering around.

The kids did the G32 (disco) most nights; we went on a couple of occaisions to embarass them by getting up to some old 'Motown' numbers! We had a laugh!

Christmas Day was just lovely. We ordered room service for breakfast in our room so we could swop prezzies as we would at home. We also decorated the outside of our door and I took some 'blue tack' so we could put our Christmas cards (and Birthday!)and tinsel on the bedroom walls. Christmas diner menu included Turkey and all the trimmings as well as other choices. There was an amazing buffet put on at 11pm which showed off all of the Chef's skills and culinary Art including ice sculptures.

New Years Eve was the best ever. At 8pm we Celebrated the British New Year in the Golden Lion Pub and at 12 midnight in the Grand Lobby. Fantastic atmosphere, staff worked there socks off while us guests just went from room to room taking in everything, we got in at 4.30!

Its the little touches that make it so personal and memorable; waiters singing 'Happy Birthday'and 'Let me Call you Sweet heart' on our Anniversay. Asking for a needle and cotton and 5 minutes its at our door! P.J's layed out on bed...list is endless

The Ship is huge and I'm sure we never saw everything. I felt safe in even the roughest of sea's especially coing back to New York.

Would love to do again but for now I'm happy to bore anyone who listens about our amazing voyage.

WELL DONE CUNARD, QM2 IS everything you said it is and more.

Don't isten to reviewers who poo poohed the staff or decore on QM2 She's Beautiful, luxurious and very very memorable. ENJOY!
