“I went on a cruise with the celebrity Century from Feb...”

written by on 13/02/2010

I went on a cruise with the celebrity Century from Feb 6th -11th 2010. I stayed in an inside state room on the 8th floor. I have been on several other cruises and my over all impression of this ship and the cruise was that it was very good and enjoyable but they could make several improvements. I'm 26 years old and already my husband and I are planning our next cruise probably with Royal Caribbean, Cunard or Carnival.

the century sink in the bathroom was very shallow; when you turn on the tap to a certain pressure the water overflows the tiny sink all over the counter and the floor.

the stateroom attendants were very polite and friendly always asking us how our day was and even remembering my husband by name. They promptly cleaned our room and replaced our towels water and ice.

It was an excellent touch to give the guests a glass of champagne upon entering the ship and entering the theater on formal night.

It was also nice to have complementary celebrity tote bags in each stateroom it made a nice souvenir

The lunch buffet was good. I liked that they offered a variety of cultural foods. Dinner in the Grand restaurant was pleasant our waiter Xavier and our assistant waitress Marsha were exceptional and were extremely accommodating when I made small changes to the menu options.

when we arrived the first day the deck chairs were dusty and stained. it would have been a good idea if they cleaned them off I had to clean one myself in order to sit on it. since it is a smaller ship there are a lot of people on the deck in the days and it is a bit crowded for space and chairs. they should have also had more deck chairs with the cushion covering as some of the deck chairs were warped making it uncomfortable to sit on.

on some other ships I have been on they had a nice movie screen on the upper deck resembling a drive in, it was nice to sit out and watch movies. The century had a small theater that played the same movie twice a day. I thought that they could have played more of a variety of movies.

the deck area was rather deserted in the nights. There was not much going on out there even when the weather was great.

The entertainment was fantastic. The shows were very enjoyable and the entertainers were great. They did a show called a touch of Broadway which was very good along with their other great shows. the comedian was great, and then acrobats were very good.

The Dj at the disco played the same music over and over again each night and the bands were okay but performed very old music. For the younger people who made it to the club at night it would have been nice to hear some up to date more popular music.

They did not provide irons, and there was no laundry facility where you could iron your clothes. They charged to iron your shirt for you. It wasn't much but I think an iron is standard in most hotels these days free of charge.

They could have provide more variety in the on board activities but they did have a cooking show competition between the chefs where they set up full kitchens on the stage in the theater which I thought was entertaining.

The people who handled our luggage did a good job getting it to our room promptly but they should have take more care delivering the right luggage to the right room as one of our bags was placed at the wrong room and we had to go look for it. they should have taken more care with the bag as one of our cases was damaged.

I thought that although lunch and dinner was good breakfast was not that great. I found the food to be very bland, the same thing every day cooked poorly.

Some of the staff weren't that friendly

there is a good amount of storage space in the rooms

The ship is very clean and well maintained

They had ice sculptures which they poured drinks down to cool them which I thought was creative

There was always fresh cool towels and drinks awaiting us when we were getting back on board from each port which was a nice touch.

the pizza was horrible. The dough was hard not crisp but tough and chewy and not very tasty. On top of that it closed at one am where many ships have the pizzeria open 24 hours. in fact everything seemed to close early on this ship including the pools and hot tubs.

The ship also had these metal raised portions in the floor that I think should be covered with carpet. Many people wear flip flops or sandals and if you miss that you could do serious damage to your feet. Also there are ramp portions in the hallway that are covered in carpet so you can not distinguish where they are from the rest of the hallway and me along with the rest of my party tripped up these ramps several times in the hallway

While I was there a few more stations were added to the TV but only for people who were apart of the captains club. I think all guests could have used more stations in their rooms.

Over all it was a good experience. I like going above and beyond on my vacations and making them as luxurious as possible before I return to reality, thus I prefer the larger ships that are more grand than the century is. The older people aboard prefer the smaller ship as they told me it was easier for them to get around. But it seemed that the ship being smaller made the effects of the wind and the choppy water seem magnified and there were a lot of sea sick people including myself for an entire night and the entire next day.

I would recommend this ship to others, overall it was good and every cruise line or ship can have its pros and cons.

Hope this review helps.

Happy sailing everyone!
