After my first two months as a "temp worker" with Hays Recruitment UK, I am fairly certain that this will be my last assignment with them. I like my job, but I really wish I had applied for it through Blueprint or any of the other agencies my colleagues work for, as they haven't had any of the hassle I have had right from the start.
According to the interviews, I was to be paid for 40 hours a week. Even my contract says 40 hours, but I only get paid for 37.5. When I pointed this out, the only response I got was that I could have a new copy of the contract with the correct hours listed. Another thing Hays didn't bother to explain to not only me, but also the two other people contracted through them and my house mate who works at a completely different contract, is how statutory leave entitlement is deducted from your pay "as per clause 7 of the Terms of Assignment of Temporary Workers". At a rate of 4 out of 4, I will go out a limb and say that this is intentional, as it makes what you earn sound like much more. These two "whoopsies" are costing me 34 pounds net a week.
I would at least hope to see that paid on time, right? Wrong. In the beginning we got our payslips on Thursday and the pay on Friday (well, I never got that first payslip!). Then the payslips would run late, leaving us doubting whether the pay was coming in OK. Then the pay ran late last week, coming in on Friday evening along with the payslip.
Now one week later, as I type this on Friday evening, neither pay nor payslip has shown up and there's no sign of any upcoming payment in Hays Connect (their internal tool for checking your account and whatnot) either. Everyone NOT with Hays got pad. Seriously, avoid at all cost.
