“Aircraft Just Didn't Turn Up”

written by mickay on 21/02/2013

Flew with Ryan Air from Manchester Int to Warsaw on February 5, 2013, on flight FR2666.
Flight out was uneventfull apart from the usual 'big sell' over the speaker system and the ridiculous prices for food and drinks onboard.
My wife and I were staying at the 5 star Sheraton Hotel in the centre of Warsaw.
We had a lovely room and the food was excellent. The weather as you would expect for this time of year was very cold with a covering of snow but the sights and atmosphere made up for the chill factor.
After a 2 night stay we made our way back to the airport after checking the flight was on time for our 7.05pm departure back to the UK on FR2665.
Check-in staff booked everyone in and departure screens showed the departure gate number. One person walked to the gate and everyone made a mad scramble to fall in line behind (as you do with RyanAir).
That's as far as we went as no one knew whether the flight had set off from the UK or even landed. No staff at the gate knew anything at all and they weren't informed of what was happening.
About half an hour after the flight should have departed someone found out from the internet that our plane had not arrived and the flight had been cancelled.
Not one staff member could give us any information.
Eventually someone in a uniform arrived and led a plane load of people through the airport, back through customs to pick up our luggage.
Through word of mouth from other passengers we found out that some of our
plane could be transferred onto a flight leaving later for Liverpool.
Having then waited in a check in line for over an hour and a half I went to the flustered check in staff to ask if we were likely to gain seats on the Liverpool flight or on another flight leaving for East Midlands at the same time.
I was told there were 6 seats left on the Liverpool flight. Realising there were more than six people in front of me I asked if the EMA flight was full and was told no there were seats available.
At this point an eastern block female on another flight walked to the front of the line and threw a paddy that disrupted the whole check-in procedure causing a further delay.
After arriving at the front of the line I was told the Liverpool flight was full but the EMA flight still had seats available. HOWEVER the gate for this flight was closing in 3 minutes. Asking if anyone had the foresight to delay the EMA flight to accomodate everyone from our cancelled flight I was told " Can't do that it's RyanAir" !!!!!
Better news was to follow when we were told that the next flight to Manchester was 2 DAYS LATER or we could have our money back !
The 2 flights to Liverpool and EMA duly left, one only part full, whilst we and others were ferried to a 2 Star Hotel back in Warsaw where we were left until 9th February. Having stayed at the 5Star Sheraton to say this Hotel was a come down was an understatement, it was awful. The food was disgusting and unedible.
We were expected to pay for our lunches and evening meals until the return flight home.
We also had all the fuss with re-checking in online for boarding passes as no doubt had we not done we would have been charged by RyanAir at check-in.
We have written to Ryan Air regarding our problem but as you would expect from a 'top company' they haven't bothered to acknowledge or reply to us.
The only good thing to come out of our dilemma was the fact that we met some lovely people in the same situation as us and we were able to enjoy their company for the 2 days we were delayed.
As for RyanAir it transpired that not one of their staff was on duty at Warsaw airport when the plane just didn't arrive.
We still don't know why the plane didn't arrive in Warsaw but other planes from the UK did. It's a complete mystery that RyanAir couldn't care less about. I personally don't even think they are worth one star.
