“My Shop of Choice for Sweaters”

written by gmoseley on 20/11/2012

I stumbled across the Wool Overs website only recently. I was surprised and delighted. I like wearing sweaters almost to the point of looking forward to winter. What I found at Wool Overs was a selection of garments in styles, fabrics, and colors that appealed to me. British wool in particular. I have always been amazed at how cotton became the fabric of choice for sweaters. Isn’t that a contradiction in purpose? I wear sweaters to keep warm; cotton does not do that as well as wool. The prices seemed very reasonable.

First, I had to try one of the sweaters. I ordered the Classic Aran in the Kiltimagh color and a large size. It arrived from Britain in about eight days. It may be the best sweater I ever have owned. The color is attractive; the cable knit is a bit classy. The fit on my body could not be better. I am 6’ 1” and about 180 pounds. The knit is flexible enough that it conforms to my body without being restrictive. The sleeves come down to just before the thick part of my thumbs. At the bottom, the sweater extends just over my hips. I much prefer these lengths. European sweaters tend to be cut this way, while US versions are shorter all around. The wool is soft, smooth, yet substantial. For the first day, I kept running my hands over my arms and torso in amazement at the sweater’s fit and feel. I have worn it in 35-40 degree (F) weather, over a cotton dress shirt or turtle neck, and under a nylon windshell, while riding my bike for several miles. I felt quite comfortable.

I cannot imagine going anywhere else to buy my sweaters. There already are a couple other items in the Wool Overs line that I covet. In the future, when I want something a little more dressy, there are models of that sort as well.
