“Poor California Car Hire Experience”

We placed our order for a Ford Mustang with FastCarHire for our trip to California. The rate was good, but unfortunately that was about all that is good about this company.

We needed to change a few elements of the booking after it had been made and the only way you can contact them is via email; they don't have a phone number to call to actually speak to someone. They were extremely slow at replying when they eventually did. This was very frustrating, and we were lucky we had booked quite a way in advance to factor in their very slow response time.

Secondly, when we booked the car, it clearly said it was for a Ford Mustang; it didn't say anywhere that it may be for another type of car. Unfortunately, when we received our confirmation direct from Alamo, it had the usual opt out of 'Ford Mustang or other'.

In terms of Alamo as a car hire company (nothing to do with FastCarHire, it must be said), I would stay well clear! When we turned up to collect our 'Ford Mustang' at our alloted time, we had to wait a further 3 hours for the car to even turn up, and then when it did it wasn't a Mustang anyway and they did nothing to try to source one for us, even though that is expressly what we had booked. Hertz may be more expensive, but at least you know what you're getting with them.

I would definitely never book again with either FastCarHire or Alamo.
