“An inside/outside view of Sweeden”

written by occupythestate on 14/09/2012

A lovely personal portrait of Sweeden told through the eyes of a middle-aged Englishman who lived and worked there as a young man, married a local girl, had a son then subsequently left to pursue a career in journalism.
Part history, part travelogue, part reminiscing and part fishing, this book builds into a delightful introduction to everyday life in Sweeden over the last 40 years as well as an autobiography of the author.
Andrew Brown has the marvelous ability to see his surroundings both as an outsider from the UK as well as an insider living, working and dreaming in Sweedish with his wife and son. The constant theme of his love for fishing is almost an analogy for the changes he notices in society as both Sweeden an himself develop through the decades.
A lovely read.
