What a bunch of pathetic cowboys, but what else can you expect from an American organisation.
I tried to change Amex TC's in the Canaries. None of the banks I tried would change them. I tried calling their 'emergency' contact number only to find the line isn't connected, there's just an automated message saying the line isn't in use. How wonderful.
When I arrived home I tried contacting Amex on several occasions, no-one was interested in the slightest. Eventually I was pointed to a website where I could complain, but not by email. I had to print out a form, complete it and post it to Amex in the US at my expense (about £2). 4 weeks later they replied saying they were sorry for my problems and they gave me a number to call - the same number that I'd already tried and still didn't work.
Amex finally changed the website but now you have to enter the country into a box to get the relevant number, but this isn't possible as nothing can be entered into the box, so they still can't be contacted.
This must be their get quick rich scheme - sell a bunch of cheques that you can't exchange anywhere. When you get home take them back for a refund but you still lose the commission. What a joke.
AVOID AND DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - THEY CLAIM TO BE ACCEPTED ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT NO-ONE WANTS THEM, UNLESS MAYBE BY ANOTHER AMEX OFFICE.
