“A fireball of energy, who then collapses absolutely...”

written by on 19/03/2008

Good Points
We got our patterdale at ten weeks, when he was hamster-sized. Immediately very friendly, incredibly loyal (loves his 'mum') and dedicated to his toys!! He is good with other dogs, cats and children, as well as the elderly. He tries to keep the rest of the family clean - especially their ears!
Loves running in the garden, going for walks, travelling in the car.

Bad Points
Possessive over toys and bones - won't let the other dog keep hers - but as she's a fox terrier, she's not really bothered!
Likes eating things he shouldn't.
Easy to spoil.

General Comments
A fireball of energy, who then collapses absolutely knackered.

Overall, our Patterdale is a very good dog. He is non-violent, friendly and routine-based. He knows when it is time to go to bed etc. He is quite difficult to train, as independent type, but is easily shown who is the boss. He destroys toys, but not furniture. He has perfected a 'I'm feeling really guilty' look for whenever he has done anything bad, so it is hard to be angry with him for more than five seconds.

There is really very little negative to say about the breed, from my experience.
