General Comments
We are now raising Spaniel #2 (Lord Winslow) and #3 (Sir Theodore Usidae).

We started 12 years ago with "Fugly the Wonder Spaniel," a liver and white Springer, and he is sorely missed (sits in an urn on our dresser). He had problems with his ears and allergy eyes, but so lovable! Did I say smart? WOW! This dog knew your intentions well before you did!

Brad Johnson ("Marmaduke") wrote him up once at the end of the strip, how Fuggles loved to go for ice cream cones. At the mere mention of the words "ice cream", "Sullivan's" or "The Big Dipper" he would rush to the back door, retrieve his leash, drop it at the front door and then "park" himself against the front door so that there was no question that he was going to go along for the treat. He would gently lick his cone like a little child, and when ice cream ran down his chin, he would thrust his muzzle forward to get it wiped off with a napkin. (This is pathetic)!

Fug's favorite treat was fresh Toll House cookies, for which my wife is famous. He knew that if she was baking a batch, and he would slip into the kitchen as the went onto the cooling rack, he could beg one off of her as soon as they cooled.

Fug would tap you on the leg if you were eating cooking; not hard, just a gentle reminder that he was waiting for a bite. If you ignored his prodding he would let out a single bark. Tell him that he was too noisy and he would literally "whisper" a bark at you. If I told him he didn't need a cookie, that he wasn't hungry, he would stick out his tongue to show me just how famished he was! One day I told him, "No... you're getting too fat..." and he put his head down and whimpered softly to get my sympathy. What a heart breaker he was!

Fug succumbed to cancer this last February, and we thought we would never get another dog... at least not for a while.

A few weeks later a friend called and told us about a little boy black and white that needed a home and was to be available soon. We were just going to "look", but if you know Springers, you can't just "look!" We left him with his mom for 2 weeks while we ran down to Florida to our grandson, and on the way home we stopped to pick him up.

A couple of months later I was working on a sale to a new client, and when my secretary (my wife) got on the phone to get financial information from the client she heard dogs barking, this turned to a conversation about dogs, and we found another springer (1 - 1/2 years old) that needed a home. Needless to say, he won us over as well, and we now have Teddy Bear (white and brown).

There are days that the two start playing at 5:30am, and they run, and chase and play until 9:00pm, with very few breaks in between.

Gotta love 'em!
