Three UK's network coverage and data speeds - thanks to their "Traffic Management" (throttling) - are among the worst we've experienced. If reviews are to be believed, Three's practices and customer services are not good, and they are decidedly sharp. Certainly, Three has continually increased its prices over the past few years whilst consistently falling below expectations or even basic standards.
The view of this Three network subscriber over eight years, is that I wouldn't trust Three as far as I could throw them. With PAYG getting cheaper and more common, it's certainly not worth risking a contract with Three or perhaps any other UK phone network. Mobile contracts are basically licences to give the networks as much money as they like, do whatever they like, and destroy credit ratings.
Three is particularly poor in our experience, while poor signals are now business inhibitors and hugely widespread in the UK. Half the UK population is left with no decent signal at home, with rural areas suffering the most. Network coverage maps mean practically nothing half the time; the only way to check coverage is to try out numerous PAYG sim cards until one of them works. The beauty of true PAYG no-contract Sims is that they can be thrown away without penalty.
