“Avoid like the plaque. They will 'Do You'!”

written by Pete68 on 18/08/2020

Having used Do You Italy several times in the past with no problems I again booked car hire in Italy with them back in January 2020, for a trip in August 2020. A week prior to travelling I tried to contact DYI by phone to confirm the booking, in light of COVID. Each time I called I was kept on hold for 15-20 minutes before giving up, bearing in mind the call was to Spain.
On arriving at the airport on 2nds August we found the hire desk to be closed, the automated key collection machine out of order and the customer service number unobtainable. We were told by the manager of the coffee shop next to the hire desk that the desk closed in March and many people had the same experience.
As we were stranded we had no choice other than to hire a car from another provider whose desk was open. Being a last minute booking, this was much more expensive.
During our holiday I tried contacting DYI and Gold Car by phone but again was kept on hold for prolonged periods. I've sent numerous emails but not received even the the courtesy of an acknowledgement.
My advice is don't touch Do You Italy with a barge pole. I know from experience that their prices are tempting but I would suggest paying a bit extra and booking with a reputable company who are members of BVRLA or ECRCS. It'll save you money and aggravation in the long run, believe me.
