“What Social Distancing?”

written by fatmaxtaffy on 18/07/2020

I visited my local Tesco a store in Welshpool after some months due to CV19 vulnerable age group recommendation and was appalled at the conditions one has to endure to get my shop. Yes there is some hand sanitizer waiting, yes a spray and towel wipe for your trolley and yes there is a screen for the checkout, but what about the store area? There was absolutely no stoical distancing at all, never mind the 2 metre, never mind the 1+ metre not even 1metre. No demarcation of Route through store, no limitations customers wandering anywhere, up to you, next to you, pushing in, and the shelf filling not much better although a copy did in fact move back. There were no face mask or coverings by any one and I looked more like a bandit than a shopper.

I was that apprehensive and felt very vulnerable that I cut short my shop and could not wait to get out.

Is this the new norm? If so it is of little wonder that the infection rate remains high and there are local lockdowns, I also expect the second wave sooner rather than later if this is the relaxation of rules experienced at Tesco.

I am amazed and it beggars belief of such abuse of peoples respect, when trying to do a weekly shop at a so-called professional store, my local village shop would knock spots of this and for me that is where my future shops will be and what I cannot get there will be online.

The two stars given are for the good car parking facilities.
