“Refused to accept return of faulty item”

Written on: 12/12/2019 by Nolanqv276 (1 review written)

I purchased a Toyotomi TDZ80 dehumidifier the company.

So far I've had less than 5 or 6 hours use from it as I only use it to dehumidify outside the bathroom after a shower or bath.

At first it worked fine - just the normal noises of a dehumidifier.

After around 2 or 3 hours of use the dehumidifier has developed a squealing noise. At first only making the noise occasionally.

Now its making the noise every minute or so - and when it does, it does so for a good 20 seconds approximately.

We have 3 other dehumidifers - one in the workshop shed, one in the conservatory and one in the main house. All are a good few years old.

Two are desiccant dehumidifiers - same as the Toyotomi TDZ80. None of them make any squealing noises.

A squealing noise - apart from being irritating - is not a sign of a healthy machine.

I bought the Toyotomi TDZ80 - even though its quite expensive compared to similar items - because I thought it would be more reliable and quiet.

After a few hours of use its not only noisy but reliability of a machine squealing like this after just a few hours of use does not bode well for its longevity.

I tried the machine in different places and on different fan speeds but the noise continued. There's no "stop squealing" button. Or indeed much the user can do short of stripping the machine down and replacing the faulty parts.

I phoned their customer services expecting them to be helpful.

The item is faulty and needs to be returned. I'm not happy with Toyotomi quality control and therefore wished to return the item for a full refund.

However this option was not offered - in breach of my rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

I will now have to pursue this through the courts - what a hassle when it should have been a simple case of reporting a fault and them collecting the item for a refund.

My recommendation is avoid this company at all costs because if there's a fault your only option is a long and lengthy process via the courts.
