I have been using 123-reg for 6 years for registering domains.
I used instant site - hard work - no flexibility and limited choice.
Had 2 sites written in wordpress and converted to webhosting - dog dog dog slow and this is the "closed" support response.
Thank you for contacting 123-reg on the 6th September 2011.
Our engineers are aware of a current intermittent issue with Database driven websites on our shared hosting packages and they are currently upgrading the platform to prevent this issue in future, however I cannot give an exact timeframe for these upgrades to complete I'm afraid.
We apologise for the current slowdown you are experiencing and I must stress our engineers are aware and are currently working on correcting for all customers, as this issue is in no way specific to yourself.
In the meantime implementing the database optimisation techniques as found on the following links should help your website load speeds:

If we can be of any further help with regard to this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards
When I asked for clarification of time - "de nada"
I think they have skimped on upgrades probably cost cutting.
Worst is I have a one year contract with them - if it does not improve really soon then time to move on...
