“Don't use in wind or rain”

written by DennyC on 18/09/2011

I bought a Towsure Insignia size 13 awning earlier this year and used it once in June. The only problem encountered then was that when it rained, puddles of water gathered on the roof as the material did not seem strong enough to withstand water to allow it to drain off. When I used it a second time in September, the first thing I noticed was the short extension poles for the front valance, which are made of steel, were going rusty. The weather turned windy and rainy and the roof poles, of which there are five, collapsed back inside the main tubes. The clamps on the poles were not strong enough to maintain the tension, and the rainwater gathered as before on the roof which meant manually emptying the pools of water on a regular basis. Eventually with the awning roof poles having to be re-tensioned every 15 minutes or so, one of the hinged pole supports on the centre upright pole snapped off and the awning collapsed. I was using the recommended tie down kit, and that remained in place. I would not advise buying this awning unless there was no wind or rain.
