General Comments
The best film magazine around, Empire is packed full of information, reviews and interviews. It clearly has a good reputation in the film industry (just look at the people who sent it birthday congratulations in issue 180) which means it often bags exclusives and very frank interviews.
The reviews are excellent, striking just the right balance between fan-boy excitement and enjoyment and film critic cynicism. I always turn to Empire first, and even if I don't always agree with what they say, I know I'll get a well thought out difference of opinion.
There are also a number of other features, including a large section devoted to reviewing new videos and DVDs (including the DVD extras) and each month an essay on a variety of different subjects.
The only sad thing is that it seems to have lost something of its sense of humour over the years (I suspect due to the loss of one writer). Nevertheless, it's still the best magazine on the market and I wouldn't miss an issue.
