This Is The First Time I've Been To The Blues Nigh
This is the first time I've been to the blues night at The Royal Oak in Clevedon, before this I did not know it even existed. It was held in the back room and seemed like a free for all. It appeared to me that there was not a structured line up so that anyone who wanted to play could come along and do so. The musicians were quite accomplished but couldn't play that well as a group as they didn't really compliment each other. It was advertised locally as "Back Room Blues" and to start at 8.30 but didn't do so until about 9.15. The first hour or so consisted of 2 men with guitars and 1 man with some kind of drum/tambourine thing. Then at about 10.30 a lady arrived with a violin/fiddle and a guitar, she got into the swing of things straight away by taking it upon herself to be the singer. She was good but a bit too samey leading to boredom on my part. Overall, great night if you're fully into the blues scene.
