“Our Nobilia Kutchenhaus nightmare-Four months and counting”

written by on 17/06/2019

After looking at four other companies, in February we selected Kutchenhaus Nobilia to carry out a complete renovation of our apartment kitchen. We paid £19,000 of the £23,800 upfront. The project scope included removing the entire existing kitchen, a partial wall, flooring, new appliances and associated electrical and plumbing. We chose Kutchenhaus because they offered a single source, single accountability solution, ie, they would take care of everything.

Kutchenhaus’s designated Contractor and Kutchenhaus themselves promised the removal, preparation and installation would take TWO WEEKS FOR A TOTAL PROECT TIME OF EIGHT WEEKS.

We were told delivery of the units would be six weeks and at six weeks, they arrived in the UK. BUT, that is when the nightmare began. Their designated contractor called to say he could not keep his start date commitment as he was taking a family vacation, but could start in three weeks. We had family arriving at that time so it ended up being delayed five weeks.

The contractor arrived five weeks late and began to remove the old kitchen. He assured us the partial wall was NOT a load bearing wall and took it down. We were told on the first day that a skip was to arrive. It never did arrive. Instead, all of the deconstruction wasted was piled either in our garage or adjacent to the communal driveway. The beam and brick debris was photographed by the management committee who now want a report from a structural engineer’s report that the removal is acceptable.

Following this, the contractor had: plumbing work done - shut off positioned behind the fridge and had to be redone, electrical work - Wiring in the wrong location and had to be redone, new tiling laid - tiler did not show up so contractor himself did it and cracked several tiles - had to be completely removed and replaced, cabinets installed, mostly done by contractor’s labourer and more than 80% were damaged and replacements on order from Germany. Nobilia will not expedite replacements.

It is now four months since the project began, up to two weeks ago we had lived without a cooker, a sink and our entire living furniture was crammed into our living room. The kitchen walls had to be re-plastered a second time and we are living with dust on everything. The walls and ceiling are still to be finished. the temporary sink installed two weeks ago leaks.

We are now told our project will not be completed until July. FIVE MONTHS OR TWENTY WEEKS AFTER WE PAID KUTCHENHAUS NOBILIA. As the project has gone so far, that completion date might be optimistic.
