“past agent”

I was a past agent for freemans, closed account and paid this off now 11 years later i received a letter from a debt collection service saying they had b ought my debt from freemans, not very nice considering i owed nothing!! I have had no correspondance from freemans at anytime during the past 10 years to say i owed anything, The collection agency have said that if i don't have proof of payment then i will have to pay them £1000. WHO KEEPS PAPERWORK FOR ANYTHING that they no use for this long.... They also said because Freemans have so many peoplle who owe them money that they have just got to it now surely not!!!
My advice never be an agent for Freemans or Gratten catalogues....
