“High increased costs this year for dog insurance.”

Written on: 02/07/2011

I have recently received my renewal pet insurance from Saga for my 5 year old dog and discovered the cost has risen from £342.00 last year to massive £509.00 this year! Wow! No claims have been made on the existing policy and I cannot understand how they can justify this emormous rise. I did expect a small increase in premium but not as much as this. I have spoken to them but the only thing they offer is to reduce Vet fees from £5,000.00 cover to £1,000.00 at a premium of £326.00 which is also expensive, for very little cover, with a cut in benefits also. I have another dog policy with them due for renewal next month and no doubt the cost will be the same or even more by then. When you think of over £1,000.00 a year to insure two young dogs, 3 and 5 years old it really is going to far. The excess has also increased on the policy. Obviously I am now looking for alternative lifetime cover at a reasonable rate! Many dog lovers especially older people, will not be able to afford these rises year and after year that these greedy insurance companies are asking for,and it will be the animals who will suffer.
